DOG GROOMING Services for dogs provided by Pet Design include nails only, bath only, short clips and our speciality breed clips and longer clips. The breed clips and longer clips are all hand scissored which requires skill and patience. These clips are more expensive because of the time and expertise required to make your dog look beautiful. All dogs require bathing prior to grooming and clipping so that we can dry the hair straight to obtain the best finish possible. Some dogs, especially our older clients and dogs that have a previous injuries, find standing for extended periods to be groomed can be quite taxing and uncomfortable. We use specific passive and supporting handling techniques to overcome this problem. No sedation is ever used on any dog. MATTS & KNOTS Since we always consider the comfort of your pet, it is our policy that under no condition are any pets to hurt in any way, all pets with matts or knots in the coat have to be clipped short. Matts can diminish blood flow to the skin and consequently skin deterioration can occur if the matts are allowed to stay in the coat over long periods of time. Attempting to brush out large matts does cause pain and bruising. The only way large matts can be removed, without having your pet go through considerable pain, is for the blade on the clipper to go under the matts. This results in the pet's hair being as short as is necessary to facilitate removal of the matts. Small matts can be removed using a slicing technique so that the hair looks like there was no matt there at all. CAT GROOMING Most cats do not need sedation and we can groom and clip the cat in the presence of the owner who can help to keep their cat calm. We have a large amount of success clipping cats without sedation and we feel it is better for the cat in the long run and much prefer to groom cats without sedation when possible. Some cats may need to be sedated for matts to be removed. If a cat needs sedation then the local vet is asked to give the sedation. Once the cat is sedated, we will then clip and bath the cat and then the vet reverses the sedation. In this case, two costs are involved one for the salon and one for the vet. FLEAS Fleas are a constant problem especially in summer or when the weather is warm and humid. In our salon we combat fleas by using Capstar and Frontline spray. Experience has taught us that animals with fleas are best washed in a soothing shampoo and conditioner so that the skin is not irritated and given a Capstar to kill the fleas. Capstar is a short acting remedy and only lasts for nine hours during which time owners can talk to their vet and use a much longer acting remedy to kill the fleas. Please remember that each flea can lay up two thousand eggs so it is essential to sterilize the eggs as well as get rid of the fleas if you wish to never have fleas again. We do not sell flea products as only your vet knows your pet's history and can advise you on the best flea treatment suitable for your pet. BOOKINGS Bookings are essential to prevent overcrowding giving us plenty of time to groom your pet to the professional standard that we demand and you deserve. Please book early for Christmas otherwise disappointments can occur if there are no appointment times remaining. |
